The first virtual conference on family farming in Latin America, convened by the American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture from its office in Uruguay with the support of RIMISP, FAO, World Rural Forum, and PROCISUR, INIA Uruguay, proposed an international discussion and a reflective process, supported by the use of digital media to communicate and connect with researchers, technicians, officials and international agencies, farmers and rural villagers, extension workers and organizational leaders.
The contents of Congress are organized around three central axis:
Axis 1: Public policies and institutional mechanisms for family agriculture.
Axis 2: Food security and family farming.
Axis 3: Technology, Innovation and Outreach for Family Farming.
The conference was opened with a lecture by Alejandro Schejtman, RIMISP principal investigator, on the role of family agriculture in development.
The themes are developed through online seminars with the participation of distinguished international speakers, as well as debates through forums. Participants can submit papers, posters, links and multimedia material of interest to enrich the exchange in each of the axes.
The virtual conference, the first of its kind on the continent, is being conducted entirely on the Internet on an online platform. In this way we try to overcome the barriers of time and space for a regional event, participatory and interactive. Anywhere, anytime, no travel costs and accommodation, people all over the continent participate and exchange views, listen to experts, ask questions and share knowledge.
